Chris Battaglia and I are partnering with Building Bridges Maine (a Braver Angels affiliate) for an interactive One Small Step workshop—free and open to the public.
Created by StoryCorps, One Small Step is an effort to remind the country of the humanity in all of us, even those with whom we disagree. The initiative brings strangers with different political beliefs together for a conversation—not to debate politics—but to get to know each other as people for a simple, personal, conversation. One Small Step brings communities together, one conversation at a time.
One Small Step is based on contact theory, which states that a meaningful interaction between people with opposing views can help turn “thems” into “us-es.” Its scientific and systematic approach is supported by a group of advisors that include scientists, researchers, and psychologists. Since its launch in 2021, over 4,500 people across 40 states have participated in a One Small Step conversation, including 50 people here in Maine.
One Small Step facilitators Michele Christle and Chris Battaglia (both based in Maine) will join us to talk about their experiences with the program as well as lead us through a mini-One Small Step experience where participants will be partnered up for a brief storytelling/listening activity.
Please register now for this interactive workshop, which will take place on Monday, September 23. 5:30 p.m. and thank you!
Eventbrite will ask for a donation but feel free to use the promo code BRAVER to skip that. Click on link below and then Reserve a Spot. _____________________________________________________________
